EXETER BUILDING RESEARCH

NARRATIVE

 

    Farmingdale State college has requested to build a chapel on campus for a place of worship. This chapel will be free to any religion. The main chapel can consist of 50 people along with the memorial and meditation chapel. The location was key to getting the best sunlight on campus.

BACKGROUND OF THE EXETER BUILDING

The Exeter building is located at Phillips Exeter Academy.

•The project took fifteen years to finally be built.

•Consists of 250,000 volumes of books

•It is also mentioned as the Class of 1945 Library.

•The Library was designed by the architect Louis Kahn.

CONCLUSION

•The natural lighting scheme is successful in achieving appropriate lighting levels for the reading areas and book stacks without separating them in different floors.

•This promotes continuity between these two activities.

•The central hall lighting brings an inviting entrance to all students of the Phillips Exeter Academy.

•The lighting for the central hall brings a sneak peek into the book stacks making the library more inviting to wander around the book stacks.
